Meet the OCSA Birkie® skiers

Donate to Team OCSA Birkie® skiers and help us save lives by making a difference in the early detection of ovarian cancer!

Team OCSA: Riley Gould, Carolyn Ascher, Cassidy Gould

Carolyn Ascher, OCSA Board President and Champion of the One Health Approach:

I will be racing the Prince Haakon (14K), on 2/21/20.  In 2021, the Birkie® race officials will offer a virtual race day option. I will take advantage of this and will submit my 14K time results and will earn competition credit for the Prince Haakon without having to race with the event day racers.  There will be an OCSA representative as a witness. I hope to finish the race in less than 3 hours, beating my 2020 time by 18 minutes.

Cassidy Gould, Hayward High School Class of 2021:

I will be racing the Birkie®   (43K) on 2/25/21. It will be my 3rd year skiing for Team OCSA.  My Aunt Kelly McNamee-Johnson died from ovarian cancer and I am skiing in her memory. She would have championed The Ovarian Cancer Awareness Organization (OCSA) who supports the One Health Approach.

Riley Gould, Hayward High School Class of 2024:

I will be racing the Prince Haakon (14K) on 2/24/21. It will be my 3rd year skiing for Team OCSA.  My Aunt Kelly McNamee-Johnson died from ovarian cancer and I am skiing in her memory. She would have championed The Ovarian Cancer Awareness Organization (OCSA) who supports the One Health Approach.

OCSA is committed in its support of the Penn Vet Working Dog Center’s ovarian cancer detection program. OCSA is donating a $5,000 Veterinary Student Intern Scholarship to support the hire of one veterinary student intern at the Working Dog Center. Student interns are an essential part of the training team at the Center and benefit tremendously from the experience of working with both an elite group of highly driven dogs as well as a team of experts in canine medical detection. Their work supports both the research and teaching mission of the Center.

The One Health Approach is a movement to forge co-equal, all inclusive collaborations between physicians, osteopaths, veterinarians, dentists, nurses and other scientific-health and environmentally related disciplines, including the American Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Nurses Association, American Association of Public Health Physicians, the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the U.S. National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
